Textiles and texture: How to make a good impression with Atlas Thomas
Saturday May 30, 2026, 10 AM to 12 PM
Clay is a very versatile medium, and works well with all manner of tools and techniques. The flexibility and patterning in a variety of textiles collaborate well with the plasticity of clay, making detail work fast and easy. In this workshop you will use the hand building techniques to create a form that will then be decorated with lace, knit fabric, and woven canvas textures.
Price: $60 for current students and members. $75 for non-members
Nerikomi and slab building with Michiko Shimada
Saturday June 6, 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM
Nerikomi is a Japanese technique in which different clay bodies are layered, stacked, and sliced to reveal geometric or organic patterns within the clay itself. Slab building is a natural partner to Nerikomi: the same slabs that reveal the pattern become the walls of the piece. This workshop covers both sides of the process, creating patterned slabs using the nerikomi method and building with them using core slab construction techniques.
Price: $50 for current students and members. $65 for non-members
Throwing tall - bottles with Christopher Combemale
Sunday June 26, 2026, 10 AM to 1 PM
Throwing a bottle means pulling height, controlling a curve, and narrowing a wide opening down to a neck. Each of those steps has its own technical demands. This workshop focuses on the mechanics of throwing tall and the specific techniques that make bottle forms work.
